When traveling with a child, finding kid-friendly hotels is always a priority for us. The happier and busier our son is, the more we can relax and enjoy our holiday. That’s why I constantly seek out family-friendly destinations, resorts, and hotels. For our stay in Phuket, I chose the Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Merlin Beach, and I couldn't have been happier with that decision.
Unlike some places that feel like chaotic playgrounds or kindergartens with kids running everywhere, this resort maintains the atmosphere of a five-star hotel where adults can enjoy their time too. While I want my son to have a fantastic holiday, I also value my sanity. I get stressed when surrounded by too many children running amok, and I’m married to an introverted, reserved man for a reason!
Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Merlin Beach features three pools: a family pool, a waterfall pool, and a kids' pool. What’s special about these pools is that they are all interconnected, allowing you to swim between them without ever needing to exit the water. There’s a pool bar in the waterfall pool, although I can’t share much about it since it was closed due to COVID-19 measures. The resort also offers private access to Tri-Trang Beach, where the ocean is clear and clean. Just be mindful of the rocky bottom and don’t forget to bring your aqua shoes! Amenities include a 24-hour gym, adult sports activities twice daily, six restaurants, and a coffee house. One of the restaurants even features a cocktail bar right on the beach, providing plenty for adults to enjoy.
You might be wondering what makes this hotel so kid-friendly. The splash pool for kids features tipping buckets and colorful water fountains, along with a separate shallow pool for the littlest ones and a big slide for thrill-seekers. However, the real highlight for kids is the kids' club. While many hotels boast a kids' club, some merely have one to check a box. I've been to places where the staff seemed disinterested. At Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Merlin Beach, the staff—especially Paula and Film from the kids' club—are genuinely attentive and caring. We are incredibly grateful to Paula and Film for ensuring that our son Dylan had a wonderful stay, which made our holiday all the more enjoyable.
Every day, the kids' club organizes two events. The first activity in the morning is typically creative (like sand art) or active (such as dance or kids’ aerobics). The second event is the Little Chef program. There are also activities suitable for both adults and children, such as basic Thai language learning, nature club sessions, and movie screenings.
Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Merlin Beach also offers the M Passport Family Package, allowing children to participate in hotel activities and earn rewards. Up to two kids under 12 can eat for free from the kids' menu when accompanied by an adult dining from the regular menu. The resort provides children's in-room amenities and offers early check-in at 10 AM and late check-out at 3 PM.
Right next to the hotel, there’s a butterfly garden home to various butterfly species, where you can admire butterflies in their natural habitat.
Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Merlin Beach quickly became one of our son’s favorite hotels, and it was fantastic for us as well. This resort undoubtedly ranks among the top kid-friendly five-star hotels in Thailand.
